Andrew Hurvitz, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty certification in sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). He specializes in the management and arthroscopic/surgical treatment of complex sports-related injuries affecting the shoulder, hip and knee. He has expertise in treating a multitude of orthopedic conditions including instability and rotator cuff tears of the shoulder, anterior cruciate and multi-ligament knee injuries, patella instability, cartilage/meniscal injuries of the knee, and femoroacetabular impingement of the hip.
Aside from delivering top-quality orthopedic care, Dr. Hurvitz is committed to treating patients with the utmost compassion, humility and care. As someone who maintains a physically active lifestyle, he understands the desire to return to activity in the face of an unexpected injury.
A Navy veteran with over 20 years of dedicated military service, Dr. Hurvitz brings a breadth of unique clinical experience to the UC San Diego Health team. He also serves as a team physician for the UC San Diego Tritons. His wife, also a Navy veteran, is currently a pulmonologist with the respiratory division at Rady Children’s Hospital.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Hurvitz served as the chief of the Orthopaedic Surgical Sports Division at the Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD), where he also served as core teaching faculty for the residency program. He received numerous hospital accolades and was appointed an associate master clinician for advanced clinical productivity. He was also the head team orthopedic surgeon for the west coast-based Naval Special Warfare (SEAL/SWCC) teams.
